Mrs. Gabel - 7th/8th Mathematics

Hello My Name Is...

Mrs. M. Gabel

Welcome and it looks to be an exciting year where I hope to help each child experience math fully. Mathematics is foundational in nature and so my plan is to cover all areas: fluency, spiral review, and conceptual understanding, which will allow your child to fill in any gaps he/she might have to this point. With a solid foundation in mathematics, I truly believe the choices your child will have in life will be limitless.
I am originally from Seattle, Washington where I attended high school and the University of Washington on an athletic scholarship in Track & Field. I had dreams of making an Olympic Team in the high jump, but fell a couple inches shy of that dream at the Olympic Trials. However, after graduation, I was given the wonderful opportunity to become the Assistant Women's Track & Field Coach with the University of Southern California where I met and married my husband, who was the Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach. Alas, even though I did not make an Olympic Team, I have always been very grateful for the experiences, education, life lessons, and friendships I received being in athletics.
Personally, after getting married and having two small children, I found being away recruiting and traveling to competitions was hard on them, so I decided to leave the coaching profession and since that time, I have taught 5th Grade and then, after a few years, moved into Middle School Mathematics where I found my niche. As I mentioned already, I have two children. My son Josh currently lives in Alaska with his wife and two children and my daughter, Erin, lives in Colorado with her husband, son, and soon to be, granddaughter! :-)
My husband and I currently live here in Goodyear and I am thrilled to now be teaching closer to home and in such a fine district. I am looking forward to teaching each of your children this year in mathematics and together we can discover all that math can show us.
